PORTO DI RIPETTA FOUNTAIN
The fountain, created by Filippo Bai in 1704 specifically to be placed at the Porto di Ripetta, is currently located in the square of the same name, in front of the Marescalchi-Belli Palace. It is one of the few surviving elements of the old port, designed by Alessandro Specchi in 1702. During the demolition of the river landing to make way for the construction of the embankment walls along the Tiber (Lungotevere), the fountain was dismantled and stored in a warehouse at Villa Giulia. It remained there for several years, until it was placed in its current location during the redevelopment of the area in the first half of the 20th century.
I conducted a survey of the fountain with both direct measurements and digital photogrammetry (SfM). This approach enabled the creation of an accurate 3D model accessible at this link. Combining different survey techniques can lead to a detailed digital reconstruction, also supporting the conservation and deeper analysis of this historic monument.
