MIX TYPE APARTMENTS
The project is made in collaboration with I. De Santis and consists in a mixed use building. The aim of the design is to join several typologies of housing in the same volume, offering a wide variety of dwellings for multiple and various users. The ground floor can host facilities and shops, the upper floors are designated as housing units.
The three wings of the building are physically separated by two staircases and elevators. By increasing the height of the ground floor of the central wing, we created a system of staggered floors. Each wing of the building has now different height of access and its own privacy. Despite the fragmentation of the interiors, the project appears externally as a compact volume with a simple and regular rhythm of the facade.
One of the main themes of the project was to "play" with traditional housing typologies and to try to combine them in a sort of "mix-type housing". The traditional scheme of the patio-house is revisited and combined to townhouses duplex, on the n-east side. The middle wing hosts outer walkways that provide access to dwellings. The access is filtered by a system of sliding curtain walls that also give the possibility to extend the inner or the outer space according to people's needs. In addition, these apartments face a central light shaft to increase natural illumination. On the left side, two different typologies of temporary housing (one with shared kitchens and the other developed on two floors), finalize the complex.
