SQUARE IN GORGONZOLA
The theme of the competition was centered in designing safe public spaces for pedestrians in Gorgonzola, Milano. As a starting point we decided to focus on the community's needs, the opportunities of the plot and its issues. The area seems to be excluded from the historical center because of the invadent presence of a street that divides the area (and the park) from the city. The main goal was to create a safe place that can re-stitch the area to the city acting as "the missing piece" that can also provide a lively space for gathering and enjoying different activities. The entire area is now paved with local stone except the green area. As a distinctive mark, a white continuous edge connects the spaces and transform itself: first it's a bench, then it becomes a swing, then a portal, then a fountain..For achieving all of this, an accurate study on the mobility was needed: cars can now take an alternative path and coexist with pedestrians.
